I came here today wondering how we don't appear to have any real discussions on this forum on the BTTG 2005 album.
Here it is 3 years after it was first available for sale. I've listened to it several times since and again just the other day when the Giallo Music LP arrived at my door. It seems I enjoy this album more each time I listen to it.
"Dion Dion" has been my favorite track since when I first heard the sound clips on this site. But upon listening to the album again, I was reminded of just how brilliant "Lost in the Universe" is as well. Morante's guitars in "Universe" give me chills just like the best of Goblin's music always has. But calling out these two tracks as standout tracks doesn't take anything away from the others. Fabio's "Japanese Air" can only be described as beautiful, and it certainly recalls memories of his work for LA CHIESA. "Sequential Ideas" puts me off a bit at the start, but as soon as Morante's guitars make their appearance, this track really soars.
Times and styles may have changed, but the real spirit of Goblin is clearly here. I think what I like most about BTTG 2005 is that it's easy to hear that this is a group of guys creating music that is personal to them. It is neither dictated by the needs of a film director or those of a record company. In some cases, it even happily strays from what the fans might expect to hear. This is where the album's appeal really lies. While I think a lot of musicians/composers in the rock field struggle with creative inspiration after many years of performing and recording, there are no such signs of this as far as Goblin is concerned.
