GOBLIN TO PLAY UNSOUND KRAKOW!
Italian legends Goblin are to play Unsound 2010, with members Claudio Simonetti, Massimo Morante and Maurizio Guarini included in the lineup.

Goblin are known for the creation of unique and influential soundtracks to classic horror films by Italian director Dario Argento. These include 1975’s “Profondo Rosso” (“Deep Red”) and 1977’s “Suspiria”, remarkable for its experimental sounds and bizarre, eerie vocals. Goblin also scored George A. Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead”.
Although Goblin reformed in 2009 to play five shows, this is the first time that Claudio Simonetti has performed with the band live in many years.
The show will include visuals from Dario Argento movies, to be re-mixed live by a Norwegian visual artist soon to be announced. Goblin’s appearance is part of the Unsound 2010 theme “Horror – The Pleasure of Fear and Unease”. The project is presented with Norway’s Insomnia Festival and Iceland’s Rejkiavik Round-Up.
Berlin’s CTM (Club Transmediale) are also partners for this project, and intend to present a second part of the “Horror” program in the near future in their hometown.
Goblin’s performance is scheduled for 23.10.2010.

UNSOUND 2010 WEBSITE ON LINE! INDIVIDUAL TICKETS FOR SALE!
HOLLYWOOD HORROR MUSIC / SOUND DESIGN LEGEND ALAN
HOWARTH ADDED TO PROGRAM!
UNSOUND TO OPEN WITH THE MUSIC OF “PSYCHO”, “THE EXORCIST”
AND “THE SHINING”!
ALSO: “NIGHT OF THE LIVING DIRT” MIDNIGHT VIDEOTAPE SCREENINGS
AND OTHER CREEPY DELIGHTS!
The Unsound 2010 program is now almost completely revealed at
www.unsound.pl. With this, individual tickets are also on sale, as well as passes,
available at www.ticketpro.pl
The website has many new details. Most exciting for horror / analogue synth fans
is the inclusion of Alan Howarth, set to perform a rare live show as well as give
a workshop on sound design for horror movies.
Alan Howarth contributed to some of the biggest genre films of the '80s. Both as
a composer and sound effects man, Howarth collaborated with John Carpenter
on the music from nearly all of his movies, starting with “Escape from New York”.
He has provided sound design and effects for the likes of “Poltergeist”, “Raiders
of the Lost Arc”, all the “Star Trek” movies, “The Hunt for Read October”, and
much more. As a composer, he scored all or part of all the “Halloween” films. His
live show will include the music he composed with Carpenter.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Psycho”, Unsound’s opening night sees
Icelander Daniel Bjarnasson conduct Sinfonietta Cracovia in a formation of 48
string players, to perform a suite from the famous Bernard Hermann score for
the Hitchcock film, as well as Penderecki music used in “The Shining” and
“The Exorcist.” The orchestra will also perform Bjarnasson’s own work, as well
as a new piece written by and performed with Miasmah label artists Marcus
Fjellstrom and Elegi.
Recent horror-related announcements also include a show by UK duo Jigoku
combining tripped out visuals and music harvested from obscure horror films,
newcomers Raime with a show combining mutated samples from industrial
records, Black to Comm’s dark drone sound sculptures and an ear-shredding
concert from Jazkamer. Roll the Dice will perform piano and electronics,
referencing everything from John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream to Basic
Channel.

Crate-digger Joel Martin (one half of Quiet Village) has helped Unsound craft a
series of Q & A’s and panels related to the dark side, including: a Q & A with
Goblin, a Q & A with Alan Howarth, a panel on darkness and experimental music
and a presentation on the use of library music in exploitation films.
Jigoku have combed through their extensive horror exploitation collection on
videotape (one of the biggest in the UK), to create a screening series running
throughout the festival entitled “Night of the Living Dirt”. Do NOT expect High-
Def quality here. This is all about old school battered products.
There is much more. Head to www.unsound.pl to find out.
PS – If you need another recommendation, Unsound was just named the number
2 festival in October by Resident Advisor!
